Rambouillet Fingering
Rambouillet Fingering
Fingering weight yarn, hand-dyed, using naturally dyes from our farm.
Our Rambouillet fingering base is a delicate 2 ply and is a lovely yarn choice for garments to be worn next to the skin. We’ve enjoyed using it for colorwork sweaters and shawls- the lighter weight makes for remarkably well-hidden stranding. It's remarkably lovely in all things lace.
We at Local Color Fiber Studio grow and gather our dye-material, use non-toxic mordants and source only sustainably raised US grown and milled wool. We care about our environmental footprint and are passionate about utilizing plants, fungi and lichen that flourish in our climate.
Each skein is:
- 2 oz., 250 yards
- fingering weight, 2-ply 100% Rambouillet wool
Rambouillet is a breed of sheep sometimes known as the French Merino- this breed does well in the Western states and produces wonderfully springy, durable, soft wool that can also be used for felting projects.
Washington state residents will be charged 6.5% sales tax. Please allow a week for us to dye and ship your yarn.
MADDER ROOT- coral, terracotta, cranberry, tangerine
COREOPSIS and COSMOS- subtly variegated ranging from persimmon to burnt orange
ONION SKIN- ranges from wheat to sunny yellow to brassy gold
MARIGOLD- ranges from sandy yellow to bright lemony yellow
RUDBECKIA- sage greens
INDIGO + MARIGOLD- ranges from warmly variegated bright green with copper tones to semisolid grass green to teal
INDIGO- ice blue, sky blue, true blue, royal blue: dyed using wet fermented Japanese Indigo
GRAPE SKIN- ranges from lavender to dark grape: dyed with Grape Skins from Bainbridge Vineyard's Rose grapes. We use Agria and Dunkelfelder grape skins after pressing.
** A note about indigo: while it is wonderfully color/lightfast, it may rub onto hands and needles from the pressure of initial knitting. We recommend using metal needles as wood will stain blue.
